EcoDuct Pre-insulated Ductwork and Alignment to Building Regulations Approved Documents Parts F and L
Approved Document F:2021 - Ventilation
Legal requirement:
The legal requirement reported in AD Part F is that ventilation shall be adequate and that mechanical ventilation systems shall be commissioned.
Approved Document L:2021/2023 - Conservation of fuel and power
Legal Requirement:
L1. Reasonable provision shall be made for the conservation of fuel and power in buildings by:
· limiting heat gains and losses (…) from pipes, ducts and vessels used for space heating, space cooling and hot water services.
· providing fixed building services which are energy efficient to a reasonable standard (...) and are commissioned by testing and adjusting (...) their efficient use of fuel and power.
EcoDuct Pre-insulated Ductwork and DW144 Compliance
DW144 is a guidance document issued by the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) proposing a standard specification for ductwork manufacture and installation. The EcoDuct ductwork system is able to meet (and comfortably exceed) the air leakage requirements and pressure classifications that are referenced in DW144, BS EN 1507, BS EN 12237, SMACNA and BS EN 13403 (refer to table 1.2 below) when following the principles of the product specification manuals and the fabrication guidelines.
This is confirmed in the VSS test report which gave a Class D air leakage rating at 2,500pa – see graph in table 1.1 below from that report. From that it is evident that EcoDuct has the same leakage rate at 2,500pa as GSS ductwork had at 500pa. EcoDuct ductwork has an air leakage performance that is inherently Class D, which is the lowest level of leakage of any UK manufactured HVAC ductwork, be it galvanised or pre-insulated.
Furthermore, EcoDuct ductwork is fabricated and installed in a manner consistent with the requirements of DW144, to the extent that the guidance applies to pre-insulated ductwork, and this is fully detailed in the published EcoDuct Fabrication and Installation Guides. This relates to, inter alia, access panels, turning vanes, strengthening rods and installation/hanging methodologies.

EcoDuct Transformative Ductwork Technologies – Transforming Ventilation Circularity
EcoDuct pre-insulated non-metallic ductwork is unlike any HVAC solution you've encountered. Leveraging our precision cutting and fabrication technology, EcoDuct delivers a robust, lightweight product—approximately 85% lighter than traditional metal ductwork with insulation—without compromising on strength or durability.
EcoDuct has unrivalled sustainability credentials and maximises off-site fabrication, adding meaningful value and providing all project stakeholders with solutions to the challenges of Net Zero and future-proofing of all buildings.
A key part of this is optimising circularity. This is achieved in several ways, particularly through the recovery and re-use of the pre-insulated ductwork, a feature rarely achievable with traditional metal ductwork plus insulation:
EcoDuct Market Update - 13 August 2024
EcoDuct Transformative Ductwork Technologies is unlike anything you’ve encountered before.
EcoDuct stands out as the ONLY ductwork in the UK and EU rated for air leakage as Class D at 2,500 Pa—an unmatched achievement. In other words, EcoDuct doesn’t leak, is incredibly durable, boasts an extended lifespan and saves energy, all while offering the inherent benefits of pre-insulated ductwork (more about that below).
EcoDuct Market Update – 14th June 2024
Benefits of an EcoDuct System – Energy Savings Through Reduced Air Leakage
Due to the unique, innovative and precision modelling and razor cutting in the fabrication process of EcoDuct pre-insulated non-metallic HVAC ductwork, a very robust duct is formed. and this has resulted in an air-leakage rating as Class D at 2,500 Pa rating. As far as we are aware, this is unrivalled in the UK and EU for standard ductwork – metal and pre-insulated – and this adds significantly to energy and carbon savings, longevity, robustness and the many other advantages of EcoDuct.

Building Regulations Part L Compliance – EcoDuct Provides Enhanced Alignment
Summary:
1. Part L is now a legal requirement covering the conservation of fuel and power in the construction and extension of buildings in England.
2. The regulations have been introduced to help create greater energy efficiency and savings on energy costs, as well as better environmental sustainability and stronger compliance.
3. Reducing carbon and ensuring energy efficiency over the entire lifespan of a building features significantly as part of the new building regulations in the UK. This can be achieved in several ways, such as maximising airtightness, optimising insulation and eliminating thermal bridging.
4. EcoDuct, fabricated from KoolDuct phenolic insulation panels, provides enhanced alignment to the regulations, including:
a. Compliance with Table 4.6 and BS 5422:2023, as applicable – insulation thickness.
b. Optimisation of energy efficiency and savings through, inter alia, minimal leakages at all classes and virtually eliminating thermal bridging.
c. Unrivalled environmental sustainability, including up to 75% reduction in embodied carbon (GWP).
d. Full compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and guidance, in both the UK and the EU.
EcoDuct Market Update – 29th February 2024
EcoDuct Transformative Ductwork Technology - Unlocking the Potential for Sustainable Materials in Building and Mechanical Services. We CAN make a difference on the road to NET ZERO.
One of the challenges for our industry, in the process of identifying suitable sustainable materials, is that there is so little focus on building services/mechanical materials, which can comprise up to 40% of the building material components. This is surely a lost opportunity. There are several reasons for this, the three main ones being that core building materials such as concrete and steel are such an obvious target, the lack of awareness about the existence and availability of none-core MEP materials that have strong environmental credentials and can be re-used and, finally, the lack of relevant MEP material data that can drive the process.
